Georgia Single Parent Coalition is an initiative of The National Leadership Group, Inc. It oversees the Annual Georgia Single Parent “Legacy Builders” Recognition & Awards event held during the week leading up to March 21st. This event celebrates single parents both male and female who are legacy builders with exceptional accomplishments while raising their children. They will be honored at the Georgia State Capitol at a luncheon during legislative session and at a special banquet designed just for them and their families & friends in mind. The first celebration of single parents was held on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at the Georgia State Capitol and followed by a recognition & awards banquet on March 23, 2019 at the Morrow Event Center in Morrow, Georgia.
The National Leadership Group, Inc., is a Georgia based 501 (c ) 3 nonprofit organization designed to provide poverty awareness strategies that impacts generations, education and training to single parents, and resources and referrals for the residents of Georgia. The organization was founded in 2007 by Beverly Brewster who currently serves as the Executive Director.
Why March 21st?
On May 7, 2018, Georgia House Resolution 279 was signed into law designating March 21st of each year as Single Parent Day. The lead bill sponsor was Georgia State Representative Valencia Stovall, District 74. The Founders of Georgia Single Parent Day are Beverly Brewster, Representative Valencia Stovall, Lenora Daniel, and Tom McBeth.

In 1984, Congress passed House Joint Resolution 200, which designated March 21, 1984, as National Single Parent Day, and President Reagan issued Proclamation 5166, which proclaimed March 21, 1984, as National Single Parent Day.
